ABOUT
Kim DeJesus creates abstract paintings distinguished by rich colors and atmospheric layers using a diverse range of techniques and materials, including acrylics, oils, and mixed media. Her works are rooted in the traditions of American abstraction and are characterized by a skillful use of pigment and methods such as layering, pouring, blotting, and dripping. DeJesus’s artistic practice seamlessly combines contemplation and desire, resulting in expansive canvases that are vibrant and explore the complexities of nature, visual perception, and the human psyche.
Drawing from historical movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Color Field, and Action Painting, her paintings are enriched by an intuitively driven feminist perspective. Through her approach, DeJesus unlocks the potential of abstraction as both a formal and poetic language, leading to bold explorations of form, light, and depth that evoke both the ethereal and the emotional.
DeJesus (b. 1981) holds a BFA from Arizona State University, where she was a recipient of the Katherine K. Herberger Painting Scholarship. She has most recently presented her paintings in solo exhibitions with William Turner Gallery in Santa Monica, CA, and with Morris Adjmi, a New York City-based architecture and interior design firm. DeJesus currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
